Ardmore, PA – January 28, 2025 – Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-Montgomery, Delaware) is pleased to announce new grant funding awarded to District Seventeen. At a meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) today, $264,482 in grant funding was awarded to projects in District Seventeen. This funding was awarded through the Marcellus Legacy Fund created by Act 13 of 2012 to provide for the distribution of unconventional gas well impact fees to counties, municipalities and commonwealth agencies, these awards were given to projects that improve greenways, trails, and recreation, and projects to mitigate flooding.

“This funding empowers us to invest in one of the most vital assets Pennsylvania has to offer: our environment. By equipping our communities with the necessary resources to effectively manage water, preserve and expand green spaces, and safeguard natural ecosystems, we are not only enhancing the beauty and sustainability of our state, but also ensuring that residents enjoy a high quality of life,” said Senator Cappelletti. “These investments help foster healthier, more resilient communities, where people can thrive and connect with the natural world around them.”

“The Cynwyd Heritage Trail is a wonderful resource for our community. This grant will serve to enhance this resource,” said Representative Mary Jo Daley (D-Montgomery). “The Penn Wynne Library Reading Garden will provide the opportunity for the Lower Merion Library System to fulfill their mission to serve all members of the Township. I thank the professionals at Lower Merion Township and the members of the Penn Wynne Library Association for their advocacy in securing funds. These awards showcase the meaningful things a community can accomplish when we all work together.”

The awards in District Seventeen are as follows:

  • Villanova College of Engineering, for the use of Shrimp Shell and Eggshell Waste for Acid Mine Drainage Treatment, represented by Lisa A. Borowski (D) and Amanda M. Cappelletti (D): awarded $64,482.  
  • Lower Merion Township, for the Righters Ferry to Pencoyd Landing Trail project, represented Representative Mary Jo Daley (D) and Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D), awarded $100,000.
  • Penn Wynne Library Association, Penn Wynne Library Community Reading Garden, project, represented Representative Mary Jo Daley (D) and Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D), awarded $100,000.
