Ardmore, PA – October 23, 2024 – Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti today announced two state awards to school districts in Senate District Seventeen through the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program (PSFIG). The PSFIG provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. In District Seventeen, Lower Merion School District and Radnor Township School District were awarded state funds for facility improvement projects.

“Our schools are doing the most important work there is to be done – readying students to be the next generation of leaders, workers, and change makers in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Cappelletti. “A safe learning environment is essential to ensuring our students, teachers, and facility are successful. I’m proud to see these funds going to projects that will make lasting, healthy changes for our community’s benefit.”

Radnor Township School District was awarded $2,550,000 for the Radnor High School HVAC Replacement Project. The project will replace the HVAC system with a new reliable energy efficient system. The current system is 26 years old showing significant increase in mechanical failures. The district will replace the major components of their system including chillers, boilers, pumps, variable frequency drives, heat recovery units, and air handling units. The new HVAC system will ensure a safe, comfortable learning environment and implement new sustainable technologies such as thermal energy storage and high efficiency condensing boilers. PSFIG funds will be used for the purchase and installation of equipment and engineering costs.

“Investing in our public school infrastructure ensures teachers and students have safe and secure buildings conducive to teaching and learning,” said Representative Lisa Borowski. “I am thrilled to have worked with Senator Cappelletti to bring taxpayer dollars back to the Radnor community as part of a significant investment which will benefit all those at Radnor High School and go far toward making the building sustainable which will benefit the overall community.”

Lower Merion School District was awarded $500,000 for the Bala Cynwyd Middle School Roof Replacement Project. This project will replace the 83,979 SF roof, including cold asphalt installation, TPA heat welded cap sheet, masonry repairs, metal coping, hips, and ridges, and drainage improvements. A portion of the roof is metal, and only requires some restoration to extend the life of that section. The existing roof is approximately 25 years old, is experiencing leaks and has outlived its useful life.  These improvements will provide a safe educational environment for students, free of mold concerns and slip risks.

“State-level funding plays a key role in driving local development by allowing communities to expand and enhance services without directly increasing the financial burden on taxpayers,” said Representative Mary Jo Daley. “By investing in critical areas like infrastructure and public services, states promote growth while keeping local taxes under control. Congratulations to the funding recipients – your dedication is a true asset to our community.”
