NORRISTOWN – December 14, 2023 – Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-17 Montgomery/Delaware) announced a total of $788,975 in grant funding awarded today to benefit District Seventeen. The grant funding, approved yesterday at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), was granted through three programs: Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program, Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program, and State Children’s Advocacy Center Funds.
The Nonprofit Security Grant Program grant funding supports nonprofit organizations – including faith-based institutions (e.g., churches, synagogues, mosques), community centers, and other organizations/facilities who principally serve individuals, groups, or institutions that are included within a bias motivation category for single bias hate crime incidents, as identified by the FBI’s Hate Crime Statistics publication. As Pennsylvania has seen a disappointing overall rise in hate crime incidents over the last two years, these investments are more important than ever before.
“The programs being awarded grant funding today are ones helping the community members who need it most. By providing places of worship, schools, and cultural centers with the resources they need to upgrade their safety and security, Pennsylvania is affirming our commitment to keeping our communities safe,” said Senator Cappelletti. “This funding also addresses filling vital vacancies in law enforcement and public transportation, benefitting the safety and wellbeing of the entire region.”
The funding awarded is as follows:
Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program funds awarded for safety and security upgrades:
- ACLAMO has been awarded $149,920
- Kohelet Yeshiva has been awarded $150,000
- Perelman Jewish Day School-Stern has been awarded $75,000
- Kaiserman Jewish Community Center has been awarded $30,080
- I.S. Kosloff Torah Academy High School for Girls has been awarded $25,000
Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program Funds:
- Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has been awarded $200,000 this will be used on signing bonuses to fill 28 vacancies and 2 expected vacancies.
- Upper Merion Township has been awarded $15,000 to invest in marketing efforts to recruit 3 full-time officers.
State Children’s Advocacy Center Funds:
- Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County has been given awards for two projects, totaling $96,975, split up as follows:
- $47,000 for NCA Accredited Services for Victims of Child Abuse
- $49,975 for EMDR Training for Accessible Care
- Family Support Line of Delaware County, Inc. has been awarded $47,000 for Maintaining Core Children’s Advocacy Center Services
