Haverford, PA – May 22, 2025 – Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-Montgomery, Delaware) is pleased to announce new grant funding awarded to District Seventeen. The Solar for Schools grant program, which was created by the Solar for Schools Act in 2024, on Tuesday awarded Haverford Township School District with $296,976 for solar at Chatham Park Elementary.
“I am thrilled that Pennsylvania’s state government has made it easier for schools to go solar. When I voted for the legislation to create this grant program, I knew that if we gave people the resources they needed to make the environmentally responsible choice, they would do so,” said Senator Cappelletti. “I am hopeful more schools in the district will apply and be awarded the grant in the future. We know that building a cleaner, more resilient future requires all of us making thoughtful, sustainable choices together.”
Solar for Schools is a grant program that school districts, intermediate units, charter schools including cyber, regional, and a school for education of the deaf or the blind, area career and technical schools, specific trade and technical schools, and community colleges can use to fund solar energy projects. These grants aid in the purchase and installation of equipment, permit fees, energy storage, and utility interconnection.
