Radnor, PA – February 24, 2025 – Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-Montgomery, Delaware) and Representative Lisa Borowski (D- Delaware) are pleased to announce $622,133 in state grant funding awarded to Villanova University through the Multimodal Transportation Fund. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth.

“Creating walkable communities with easy connections to public transportation is a key initiative for our region’s success. This project not only expands safe access to SEPTA’s Regional Rail, but it also encourages residents to explore their neighborhoods, stay active, and connect with the community – supporting both mental and physical well-being,” said Senator Cappelletti. “This exciting grant award will strengthen our community and create lasting positive impacts.”

The project seeks to build a sidewalk along Spring Mill and County Line Roads that will connect the Villanova station on SEPTA’s Paoli/Thorndale Regional Rail line, the Villanova University Campus, Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden, and the neighborhood off Claremont Road. Residents living on Wistar road in Radnor will also greatly benefit. Pedestrians already regularly traverse this area but must navigate parking lots on Villanova’s campus or dangerous, narrow shoulders along County Line Road. This includes Villanova students and members of the community who seek to access Stoneleigh, walk to campus or the train station, or want to move about the community.

“I am grateful to Villanova University for taking the lead on such an important safety project which also encourages the use of the SEPTA Regional Rail. So many benefits in one project including helping to increase access to one of our area’s most beautiful natural assets, the gardens at Stoneleigh,” said Representative Borowski. “Thank you to Senator Cappelletti for her partnership and to Villanova for their vision.”
