Ardmore, PANovember 22, 2024 − State Senator Amanda M. Cappelletti (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today announced that Penn Wynne Library has been awarded a grant of $141,300 from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The funding will support the creation of a Community Reading Garden, a new outdoor space designed to promote literacy, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.

“This grant is a wonderful investment in both the education and well-being of our community,” said Senator Cappelletti. “The Penn Wynne Library has long been a vital resource for our residents, and this funding will help transform their vision for a Community Reading Garden into a reality. Not only will this garden provide a peaceful space for reading and learning, but it will also serve as a gathering spot for residents of all ages.”

The Community Reading Garden project aims to create an inviting, nature-filled outdoor space where individuals and families can enjoy books, participate in educational programs, and connect with neighbors. The garden will feature sustainable landscaping, seating areas, and accessibility improvements to ensure that everyone can enjoy the space.

“The community is extremely excited about the addition of a Community Reading Garden at the Penn Wynne Library,” said Jennifer Kuhns, Penn Wynne Library’s Head Librarian. “Our physical footprint is small, but our reach is vast, so the garden will provide a beautiful, safe outdoor gathering area for all to enjoy. This will enhance the library experience in so many ways, from reading, relaxing and socializing, to expanded space for our popular story times and additional programming opportunities.”

The Community Conservation Partnerships Program supports the development of parks, recreational facilities, and environmental education programs across Pennsylvania. This grant is part of the state’s broader efforts to enhance public spaces, encourage outdoor activity, and strengthen local communities. See the statewide list of awards here.
